Testimonies by Prisoners

“Kindly receive my humblest greetings and wishes of wellbeing. Belatedly, as this may appear, receive my sincere thanks for the noble contributions you rendered.”

Benjamin

Death Row, Upper Prison, Kampala

“I run out of words to express my gratitude. The Hospital looks great. The Commissioner of Prisons was around last month with a couple of guests, they were all impressed and proud of you. The challenge will be to maintain the standard of cleanliness. However, we shall - I promise. Many thanks for keeping in touch, you are our ambassador”

“Now and again we marvel at your works. This time around we will conduct the second APP football tournament. It will be yet another blessing to us. We just can’t wait to kick off. Being a festive season, we shall incorporate all indoor games, viz volleyball, badminton, ludo, scrabble, chess etc. I am working on a sports magazine to spice up the event. On the health side of it, we shall massively carry out HIV/AIDS sensitisation within our community. This will run concurrently with the tournament.”

“Your simplicity has always been my inspiration. Your care for the sick will always remain my challenge and I will always do my best. Prison as it is was a nightmare.  However, like every cloud with it’s silver lining, I have learnt a lot. I was a soldier by profession.  I have trained in prison as an HIV/AIDS counsellor. I work in the inmates hospital, precisely the Aileen Chapple Wing. We are grateful for all your support.”

Lawrence

Upper Prison, Kampala

“We greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We thank you for the assistance you sent us on 24th December. All the members of the club were pleased with the items which you sent for us. We pray that God blesses your activities so that you can continue to help God’s people. We wish you prosperous new year.”

James

Chairman, St McLean, Gospel Music Club

“I really express my sincere appreciation to you for the love you have towards prisoners in general. Your love towards prisoners, of which I am one, is beyond most human recognition and understanding. Because of its immense reality and practical nature, you are exhibiting the Biblical reality of loving someone the way he is, after all, we are all sinners. Putting together all what you have done, you are doing and intend to do for the prisoners and Ugandans in general, I have to thank God first of all the one who created you and also to wholeheartedly thank you for allowing God to use you to assist us wretched people.”

Livingstone

Upper Prison, Kampala

“I was arrested and remanded at Luzira Remand Prison. My friend in prison told me about the sick bay, which was financed by APP. I got very good treatment at the sick bay and a doctor asked me to be going there for special food and porridge which other sick prisoners were getting. I used to go to the library, which was also financed by APP, to read books. I was also a member of the reading club which was headed by a very good lady from APP, Miss Glorias.”

Alberto

Kampala Remand Prison, 2011

“Please sir, thank you so much for supporting the education programme in Luzira Women’s Prison, we are really grateful for the work you are doing, such as paying teacher, sending for us some books and many other things…. The number of learners has increased… they are now 64 in the primary section, apart from secondary level. May almighty God bless you in whatever you do.”

Jenat

Headmistress, Luzira Women‘s Prison

“Greetings and warm regard from Uganda, Luzira prisons in particular. Many people were inspired by your generous offers and love rendered to prisoners in Africa. This is a new spirit. This has humbled us and set in motion meditation about the vision and sight you possess, which is rare in ordinary life. You deserve a vote of thanks.”

Christopher

Upper Prison, Kampala

“I must thank you for the work well done by you. The services that you rendered to us can not be expressed in mere words alone. In fact, I never expected you to go the extra mile like that.  There is a saying that goes ‘never judge a person by what he appears to be; in the hands of God, his potentials are limitless’. If you had not stood firm from the start, the accomplishments for which you have now become famous would have gone to another. You chose to be right rather than popular. Remember, that those who can meet needs will always draw a crowd, as there will always be needs represented in the crowd. We shall never forget you for your compassion for suffering humanity which is ever boundless. We thank God for having used you in a tremendous way.”

Willy

Death Row, Upper Prison, Kampala

“Surely I can not express my gratitude with a pen or words, hence I beg you to read the unseen heart. I tell you, what you did made us proud and courageous. For us who have no parents, you left us a lesson.”

Serapio

Death Row, Upper Prison, Kampala

“Surprise, Surprise. It’s so amazing. I can’t believe it. The feeling of joy in me is so intense, I see no alternative now except to share the joy with you. I thank you very much for the set of pens. You have surely healed my troubled spirit. Thank you for your solidarity, especially in a world that can be heartless and unkind. Thank you for the work you are doing in prisons. We have read your books, slept on your mattresses, bed sheets and blankets, you have repaired shower rooms and you have supported football and others. To assure you, I have been blessed by your coming to Upper Prison.”
