Testimonies by Ex-Prisoners
“OUT OF THE FRYING PAN - INTO THE FIRE!” So the saying goes in many lives in Africa especially if you happen to overtake the law on the left hand side!
Many have made Gaol their habitat simply because the public perception on many Ex-prisoners is that they are permanently branded criminals limited to wrong acts no more good things out of them! Not until their Creator may have mercy on them by returning them to Hades!
To make the world more sadder to you, you find even the only dear one,whom you would depended after jail is no where to be seen. “Where is she?” You would ask. “Her father took her”, they would reply reluctantly not knowing the agony in your heart - “and by the way dare not to follow her, she has already re- married!” They would warn.
Every step you make, eyes are following you with whispers of demonizing you “Do you see him? yes he was from jail, wrong man!” The only prayer you make is nothing wrong happens within that vicinity because you will be automatic criminal not even a suspect! “WHAT UN JUST LIFE IS AFTER JAIL!”
“But, wait a minute, who said these people are permanent criminals?” That was the question the founders of APP asked to the sinless public, verily if any of you has never broken any law that would guarantee him or her to be jail, May we see your hand up? Instead of raising their hands, they instead excused themselves by jeering at APP founders for asking them such a question!
Gauze who remained there, only the ex convicts and the APP staff, who said come to us , we shall make you better for them ! That is exactly what happened to me OMODING STEPHEN JEROME after serving for 13 years as a Teacher, bearing fruits of Layers who prosecuted me, Doctors who treated the none criminals, Judges whom I stood before, Police officers who took on the arrest, to name but a few who have passed through this one time criminal.
Now,they have forgotten the “Good’s”, “Excellent” and other encouraging comments I used to put in their books during their doodling step of writing.
The saying goes that “If Am wrong once NO one forgets , But when Am correct a hundred times NO one remembers” But APP says we are ready to remember your good deeds only ! and we are here to forget your mischief. Thanks to the founders of APP for that wonderful and unique ideology of re uniting , reforming , educating and others that APP is doing.

“I’m so proud to have come in contact with APP - the dream I presume of every ugandan prisoner. Those people are so nice and to me I consider myself the child of APP. When all hope is gone and in a situation of despair in the maximum security prison in Uganda I meet this group of young men and women who come with the hearts of angels. And my life has never been the same. They supported me in all aspects of life while in prison and when I got out of the prison as a free man after 7 years I find not my relatives but APP to receive me.
It is one thing getting out of prison and quite another to be welcome home, but APP gave to me the welcome that was too good for me to believe. I stayed with Alexander in the house, ate with him and worked with him. Like a brother to me he taught me how to become a man. My dreams as a young man had all vanished my education gone, coming from a poor family with no one to suport me. but APP came at the right time. Today I’m in my fouth year at law school with the suport of APP. EVEN WHEN I FEEL THINGS NOT MOVING I RUN BACK TO TALK TO THEM. They have picked me from the ashes and uplifted me to the new class of people that I had never thought of in life.
APP has and continues to be a great influence on my life and many more of ex-prisoners and those still in prisons in Uganda.”
