This video explains some of the work done by the African Prisons Project in Kamiti Maximum Security Prison in Nairobi, Kenya, during July to September 2006. The footage is from NTV, which is the main broadcaster in Kenya.
The project included renovation of the Prison Library, supplied with 34,000 books collected in the UK, as well as bookshelves, computers, desks and chairs. Prison cells were also renovated with donated sheets, pillows, blankets and medical equipment.
The new Library and Infirmary were opened by His Excellency Adam Wood, the British High Commissioner, in a ceremony which was televised and attended by many members of the press and governors of other prisons.
