Vodafone

In 2008 APP won a substantial funding boost from Vodafone’s World of Difference programme.
Vodafone runs an admirable programme which gives chosen individuals the opportunity to work for their elected charity for one year. Alexander McLean, APP director-general, applied for the World of Difference scheme seeking the financial support and he received a ‘salary’ of £25,000 and additional expenses necessary for him to continue his role in APP.
Alexander said: “I’m delighted to have won this award as it will help me to continue with the work I do for APP without having the financial pressures that come with being a volunteer. It is a great honour for African Prisons Project to be recognised in this way and I hope this will be the beginning of a new and very fruitful stage of our development.”
It’s wonderful to see a company as large as Vodafone running such a useful scheme for individuals seeking to work in the charity sector.
