APP Freedom Vibes Concert
6 November 2011
29 October saw APP hosting its Freedom Vibes Concert in the splendid St Mary’s Church, Lace Market, Nottingham.
In spite of the evening chill people ventured in and were warmly welcomed by APP volunteers and ‘Friends’ of St Mary’s Church – who put on a welcome supply of hot drinks.
Starting off the evening’s entertainment was host Michael Shand with his resounding voice followed by the enthusiastic rapper Wariyah and powerful soul singers Miracle and Christine Asamoah; then the melodious quality of Lincolnshire-based Abi Moore’s voice and guitar plus JonPaul Palombo – a great acoustics player and singer (who may write a song for APP!), not forgetting the talented local poet Nicki Agalamanyi.
St Mary’s Church was filled with a real mixture of sound.
Browsing gave visitors chance to choose from a selection of hot Caribbean food, wine by the glass and hot drinks plus side stalls offering skin creams, scents and soaps and arts and crafts of various types; APP’s display stand proved a particular attraction and APP’s ‘Freedom Cry’ CDs were available to purchase.
The raffle table was loaded with wonderful prizes, all freely donated.
APP staff and volunteers worked extremely hard to organise and accommodate things for the event both before and on the day.
Thanks to Kevin Night, event photographer
Following an urgent, last minute plea for help for an event photographer a local man, Kevin Night, stepped forward to offer his professional services free of charge and proved most polite and proficient. Kevin, who has recently graduated from Nottingham University, is involved in art, music as well as photography and has offered to assist APP in the future.
Kevin has most kindly added an APP link on his website, where you can see a few of the concert’s striking photos: www.kevnight.com
