APP are recruiting for a Head of Education to lead our education team and take full accountability of our projects...

APP runs education projects in prisons across Uganda. We have an innovative education model which works to fight illiteracy, restore self-esteem and to equip prisoners with skills through education and training. We now require a Head of Education to lead our education team and take full accountability of our projects.

The aim of our educational activities is to contribute to the total rehabilitation of inmates, equipping people in prison with the skills and attitude required to contribute positively to society on release and find an alternative to crime. Current projects include the refurbishment of libraries, literacy classes, high level support for those studying for O levels, A levels and degrees, creative writing, storytelling, mother and baby reading groups, drama classes, music, art, book clubs, sports classes and knitting and craft classes.

As Head of Education, you will take full responsibility of all education activities and work with our project officer to manage project plans. To be successful in this role, you will use your network to create and maintain partnerships with educational institutions. Naturally, you will be people managing our education team which includes librarians, teachers and vocational trainers.

Applications will be welcomed from all candidates and preferably those who have previously been a secondary school headmaster/headmistress or university/college heads of department.  You will need to demonstrate strong ability to communicate with a wide audience range and have strong organisational skills. If you are successful in this role you will be helping to change prison sentences in Uganda into a time of positive transformation and break the cycle of crime.
